Do you want to heal the split between your body and your spirit? Do you want to  change your relationship with desire? Spirit Journeys is proud to offer a radical, playful and profound exploration of the deep erotic wisdom at the heart of the Christian mystical tradition -- the Erotic Heart of Christ.  This tradition is not a well-meaning modern fusion of Christianity with the "tantric" erotic traditions of the east -- it an authentic tradition within Christianity itself! From lust to longing to love to union, this authentic path of sacred desire runs deep within the Christian Mystical tradition, flowing through the wisdom literature and the testimony of our greatest mystics, and answering some of the most difficult and important questions of our spiritual lives:
  • Is desire wrong?
  • Is desire really the source of all suffering?
  • Is there away to harness desire in my spiritual practice?
  • How can I feel good about my desire? 
  • What is the difference between lust and longing? 
  • What about addiction? pleasure? sex? 
This tradition teaches us how to leave behind every story about who we are, experiencing the fullness of God in every aspect of our bodies, minds, hearts, spirits and lives, cultivating desire until it burns away all sense of separation. In this way, desire -- expressed through wholehearted embrace of our whole human experience and unconditional, self-emptying generosity -- is essential to the spiritual path of theosis, or ecstatic union with God. In this weekend workshop we will draw on the wisdom literature (especially the Song of Songs), the testimonies of Christian mystics, artists, and musicians, and the teachings and life of Jesus, Mary Magdalen, Mother Mary, and Moses. We will discuss the challenges and possibilities in our own experience of desire, and introduce the deeply embodied practices of the mystics, including breathing techniques, embodied prayer practices, sacred dance, chanting, gazing, and healing touch. Together, we will explore the nature of our relationship with desire, from the manifestations of addiction in our lives, to the obstacles that keep us from experiencing the intimacy we want, to the most tender spiritual longings of our hearts. Explorers from all spiritual traditions and no tradition at all are all welcome to this experience!
